Hi guys! , Hope you all are safe. Today, I am going to discuss the basic details about Augmented Reality(AR).

What is AR?

Augmented Reality (AR) technology is a technology that combines virtual information with the real world. Augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it. In 1968, Augmented reality technology was invented, with Ivan Sutherland’s development of the first head-mounted display system. It is an interactive experience produced by the computer or smartphone in the real-world environment by creating sound, images. It just expands our physical world, adding layers of digital information onto it.

The basic hardware requirements of an Augmented Reality System include (Azuma, 1997; Billinghurst, et al., 2001):

  • the presence of a video camera to capture live images,
  • significant storage space for virtual objects,
  • a powerful processor to either composite virtual and real objects or display a 3D simulated environment in real-time, and
  • an interface that allows the user to interact with both real and virtual objects.

Advantages of AR

  • AR can be used for increasing the knowledge bar of people.
  • IT helps to share experiences with others in a real way using smartphones.
  • IT is a massive help to transform the learning experiences
  • It builds a fun and entertaining environment
  • It helps to experience real-life abilities in a safe environment.
  • expand to new sectors, such as healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, telecommunications, education, and public safety with AR

Common AR use cases examples

  • Education

Technological advances enable the use of innovative learning tools for education. AR is the most effective tool for learning. Students can gain real experience and it is a massive support to improve knowledge and skills fastly. AR can enable teachers to show virtual examples of concepts and add gaming elements to provide textbook material support. This will enable students to learn faster and memorize information. Furthermore, it makes learning itself more engaging and fun. It is also not limited to a single age group or level of education and can be used equally well in all levels from pre-school education up to college, or even at work.

  • HealthCare

The healthcare industry has been facing challenges created by the pandemic, AR has become a useful tool. It makes medical workers’ jobs easier and safer through human/machine interaction that reduces the need for physical proximity and contact.AR supports Remote guidance, Medical training, Diagnosis, and Thermal Imaging , and telehealth. furthermore, medical students can experience it with fun.

  • Gaming

AR has brought a revolution in the gaming industry. The gaming industry’s growth is predominated by Smartphone users who spend a maximum number of hours playing the game over phones or new gaming technologies. IT helps help to create a realistic image along with sound and other sensations to offer an imaginary setting that stimulates a gamer’s physical presence in the environment. Users can experience real-time using AR.

  • Marketing

In the marketing field, AR is the hottest topic today. Every biggest company like google, apple, Facebook added AR capabilities for their platforms. With the aid of AR can increase sales and brands. Customers can really experience some product before buying it. As an example of shopping in a supermarket. Using a smartphone AR app, consumers can screen what prices might be on sale, what coupons might be available, and what buying combinations might make sense.

In today, there are so many sectors that rapidly develop with the aid of Augmented reality. Such as Fashion and beauty, Retail, Industries, travel, and food and beverage sectors.

Difference between AR and VR

  • AR augments the real-world scene while VR creates completely immersive virtual environments.
  • AR users can control their presence in the real world; VR users are controlled by the system
  • VR requires a headset device, but AR can be accessed with a smartphone
  • AR enhances both the virtual and real-world while VR only enhances a fictional reality.

Hope you all are gain some idea about Augmented Reality. Hope to see you again.Thank you.Good Bye.!
